Is L-glutamine important in cell culture? Is it unstable in solution?

L-glutamine is important in cell culture. After removing the amino group, L-glutamine can serve as an energy source for cultured cells and participate in protein synthesis and nucleic acid metabolism. But L-glutamine is unstable in solution and decomposes into pyrrolidone and carboxylic acid at high temperatures. Some toxic degradation products such as NH4+can irreversibly damage the cell wall.

The stability of L-glutamine under different temperature and pH conditions is studied as follows.
